The Weeping Wedding (again *0*??!)



Waarom klink ik zo pathetisch? Het klinkt dat ik tegen

huwelijk ben. Het is natuurlijk niet zo. Het was,

misschien, de meeste huwelijken ik heb bezocht waren geen

"cinderella-kind-of wedding".



Weddings are supposed to be fun. Says who? My wedding wasn't fun. It was flood. Yeah yeah, it's my problem, anyway. Nope, it wasn't the same. So, here begins the story.



Last Sunday, June 27, was supposed to be a wonderful day for my best friend, Rini. Finally, her journey with her beloved one ended in a "one-fine-day". At least, that's what she believes so. But frankly speaking, I don't!



It's not that I don't believe in marriage. I do. I just don't believe that marriage is a slam-dunk-solution. It's not the end of your problems. It can even be your beginning to more problems.



Marriage forces you to do something you might don't want to do, because it's all about compromising. It's about fair trade; I give you all I have for I'll get all you have. In Indonesia, it's even more complicated. It's not only you and him/her. It's your family against his/hers.



When it comes to family, things won't get easier. Your father wants this but his mother doesn't. Your mother loves this, but her father hates it. Daarom heb je een wedding planner nodig. So you won't miss anything on the day.



A wedding planner, that was what lacked on my best friend's wedding. So, on the d-day, everything got jumbled. She definitely took a nonchalant step. Their family get confused and disappointed --so was I, a bit. They thought that the bride/groom hasn't take the wedding --ergo: marriage-- seriously.



I didn't know whom to blame on and I don't think it's important. I just have some suspicion that neither the bride nor the groom wanted the wedding anyway. They just did it, because they thought that's what people had wanted them to do. They were trying to make people happy, at the expense of themselves.



Why bother? Dunno, maybe cause that was social life is all about. It just, I just, I just don't like the idea... I dunno. I just wanted to see my best friend happy on her wedding day. That's all.
